repair a cut search coil cable

I just purchased a minelab sovereign xs and the 10 inch search coil wire was repaired with two metal connecters that plugs into each other. Can you splice the wires together and solder them and put shrink tube over each wire and then shrink tube the hole cable? this would get that connector out of the picture. will this affect the coil perfomance
 
As long as its done properly it should be better than the connector, use pre glued heatshrink for the outer layer
