Well I did go out to hunt under the old oak trees today ( Friday). I got there at 7 am and hunted until 2pm..........I take along nutribars for lunch. The hunt started out quite bad.lots of tabs/ tab pieces and various foils. I picked up about 50 to 60 pulltabs..... and virtual bag of junk as well to go with the tabs. But I also got 3 really nice targets. The first was a small ladies 18 K ring with tree diamond chips. It read a really strong "22" on the Cortes meter.......north/south sweep and east/west sweep this was a solid " 22" and so I dig it ...........11 am finally a keeper!!! The 7 inch concentric coil really worked well in this environment. At 11:15...bad news.... a guy with a Garrett 1250 shows up.........I've got competition. Another hour goes by and I'm digging mainly pennies and the odd nickel, things are looking bleak. At 12:30 guy with the detector comes by on the way to his car...........asks me why I bother to hunt this junk hole??? He's found lots of pennies a ton of bottle caps and he's had enough. He wishes me luck and says goodbye!!( Amazing I'm digging very few bottlecaps.Cortes don't like 'em) At 1:15 I get a weird choppy signal. Confidence bars are spread out over three zones, target does a fairly solid ( 22 to 26) bounce!! Nice hard sound but just a bit "ratty". Second keeper comes up.... a man's 14K ring with a piece taken out by the lawnmower. That's why the "choppy sound)??? Blue star saphire with three diamond chips................I decide to stay just a bit longer. And then after removing a 8 inch long metal pipe..........and some electrical wiring.....................I get another long signal. This one is " all over the place" on the meter; but it sounds solid and good, not as harsh as the junk around it!! I go into all metal and begin to expect more pipe pieces. Then number three comes up...................a beautiful 5inch long 14 K ladies woven design bracelet. It's 2 pm time to go home and beat the rush hour. Another great day. Persistence pays off and as Monte says..... best to dig it up if it sounds good ...don't just rely on your meter alone!! Boy do I like my Cortes!!!
