Removing Stock Coil Cover

Chris(SoCenWI)

Howdy,

I've been hunting construction sites and have noticed a bunch of dirt has gotten in the coil cover. I know that can screw up detectors and I've removed the covers on my other detector's coils.

Tried to remove the cover on the F-75 and it doesnt seem to want to come off. Any suggestions? Is it glued on? Or just stuck. Seems thin enough that it might break if I forced it. And is the bottom of the coil robust enough to use without a cover?

Put one of those fine tipped fittings on your garden hose and work it off with water pressure.

Yes, the coil is robust enough to use without a cover. I normally use one but when I saw the pattern on the F75 coil I decided against it, knowing it would be buggar to get off.

Try this, unplug the coil cable from the control box, remove the bottom shaft and coil still assembled, try to get as much running water in between the coil & cover as possible ( all the way around ) while GENTLY working the cover off ... it's aggravating and takes some time but I found no other way to do it without destroying the cover  it is very fragile and about $15 a pop.

To answer your question ... YES the coil by itself is ROBUST enough to use without a cover ... within good judgment.
If you hunt in extreme hot dirt or salt sandy beaches I suggest leaving it OFF to prevent falsing.

Hope this helps

Good Hunting

Have any of you tried just leaving the coil cover off the stock F75 coil and spraying the bottom of the coil with a P.U. box bedliner spray?-----If so, what brand & type of spray did you use and did it work out ok?----It would sure be neat if that would solve the coil cover problem on the F75 & protect the bottom of the coil at the same time.------Del

working carefully around the edges. The air worked it loose by bloing out the particles of dirt and sand that were causing it to stick so bad. Never put it back on................and so far the bottom of the coil looked fine.and I'M a scrubber!!! Streak!

Mine cracked the first time I removed it, so be careful. It's still usable and sure comes off much easier now;)
