Remote Switch Mod on Sovereign Elite

I did the popular remote pinpoint switch mod for the sov. elite today. Well..I did it earlier this week and today my eldest son Shane redid my sloppy soldering so that it actually connected...
We also redid the switch assembly to a toggle switch which is easier to thumb. (imo)
The sov elite does NOT open like the sov shown on the mod website so here are a few pictures that may help anyone tackling this.
First step, opening the case. Undo the two screws under the battery pack, just as instructed on the mod website. However the case then opens as shown here.

Second step, getting the faceplate and control part off. Open up the shielding and undo the 3 screws you can see holding the faceplate on. Unplug the flat multiwire from the circuit board.
Very gently lift the rear/coil end of the circuit board to pull the board clear of the little slots it fits into on the faceplate. Then lift the front end out of the way to access the screw hidden under the circuit board. Remove that screw and the faceplate will now open to allow soldering as shown...

From this point wire it as instructed on the sov mods webpage.
Here's a shot of where I located the jack on the casing.

The switch mounting I came up with...

It's housing and how it is attached.

The plug and how the wire is run..

And the whole works together again...

As the mod website says, when the new switch is not plugged in the front one operates just as normal. This sure will make switching to pinpoint a whole lot easier!
Besides, it was fun working with my oldest son on this for most of the afternoon. I have to admit he sure is better at soldering than I am.

My thanks to Wildhere for that great website!

hey that looks great! I did a remote mod just a few weeks ago on my XS2a. I didn't want to solder in the tight space so I used a pair of micro alligator clips to hook my wires to the front panel switch wires. Looks like the elite opens up much more conveniently.
Now that you have a remote switch, try a 5' extension wire and hip mounting -- it's like swinging a feather!

...And thanks for the wonderful photo tutorial. I agree with your son, the angled tube end looks cool.
fod:)
