Remembering The Big Bug Pro

Hello Fellow MDers

Just wanted to know if anyone used the Bounty Hunter Big Bud Pro with Nickel Protect ? I had one when they first came out and this detector found me some coins etc. that my main detector Fisher 1265x overlooked. One time I was hunting a Old fair ground and came across this large signal with my Fisher 1265x. Upon digging it up it was a folded pop can, I came across this a few times that on these loud signals over every time it came out to be folded pop cans. I came across this often that I started to ignore them with the Fisher. One day I came back this time with my BH Big Bud Pro with nickel protect. This detector locked on to one of these targets I had ignored and showed something less than a POP can on the meter. It showed something in the high coin range, this time I decided to dig it and upon my surprised I unearth a Canadian 1940`s Silver 50 cent piece. I live in Canada so this is a rare find as not many were lost over the years Canadians were coin pincher's and held on to coins of this value are rarely lost. This was back years ago also this Big Bud also locked on to a silver ring in the nickle protect range also it never lost any nickles when I had this switched on. I liked this detector all except the search coil was faulty after awhile and it use to false often so i got rid of it. I really liked the meter and nickle protect circuit Bounty Hunter used on this detector it netted me some coins and items that I would have never got using my trustworthy 1265X Fisher killer machine.
Anyone else like their BH Big Bud Pro with Nickle protect ?

I think i heard of them a long time ago but i am not sure, Sounds like it was a nice detector , it's a shame the coil went bad. but at least you found that canadian 50 be fore it cheked out of comision. nice find.

Yes thanks, it was a great rare find I only found another 50 cent Canadian silver about 1920's once while detecting with my Fisher 1280X in a lake, I was up to my chest in water at that time I can't imagine why it was so far out in the lake. Anyway Silver coins are not rare here just larger domination's are hard to find. 50 cent and older Silver dollars are indeed vary rare and in all my years detecting I have never found a silver dollar and I have Lot's of silver coins found. I still not found that elusive Gold Coin either, one of my trainees back from the late 80' found a Gold Eagle $10 coin at the second base area of a old park here, the lucky duck! They still elude me.. anyway the Big Bud Pro with nickle protect was a great feature to have on a detector at least for me. I don't know why they dropped that feature on later models wish they had incorporated it into some of the modern detector. If it wasn't for the erratic fault-sing of the coil I might still have it today. I have a hard time departing from detectors after I get them, I traded some in years ago to update on some newer gear. One I didn't keep very long was a Whites Eagle II, that detector was so heavy my arms would drop off after a couple of hours detecting with it. Wasn't long maybe a year later I traded that in for a Gold Spear and some more gear.
If I find a picture somewhere in a old Western $ Eastern magazine I'll post it so others can see the design of it, the body resembles the BH Tracker II or BH Gold Digger type body style but had a better meter with different items marked off on it. The other guy looking for a Red one in another post I never seen one of those, mine was black casing like the ones mentioned above in TKII and GD. Nothing fancy but it did what it was suppose to do lock on to nickles when the switch was up and you passed over one, and yes it sure did work every time.
Thanks for answering keep the comments coming!

I would like that nickel lock in a detector, because nickels are one of my most favorite things to dig. Last night I found my first war nickel with my Compadre. It was a 1945 S war nickel and still had the ridge on the edges. That tells me from the condition it was in that it may have been lost that year or shortly after that year. I dug 3 nickels total in my hunt last night. I was grinning ear to ear especially since I found that elusive war nickel. Call me crazy, but I love to dig the nickels especially the silver ones. So if you are listening first Texas products, if it is possible to make this nickel lock happen in the newer machines, it would make a nickel hunter like myself very excited to own this machine.

Hi af647
Great News, that BH pro have Nickle protect switch? How about taking a closeup picture of the detector with switch and meter so they can see what the beast looks like? Thanks

This is one of my Big Bud Pro SE units. I really like the Blanker option that these units have. It is great in trashy areas.

The one I had was Black in color never seen the red ones before. Is your search coil grey in color ? Thanks and hope you can lock on to some fine coins with it.

Great finds with the Big Bud :super:I wish the snow would stay away, snowing again today, wont get out before Easter if it don;t stop, had 3 days and melted all the snow so we went Prospecting instead for the afternoon, was hoping to get out one day and try out the Tesoro Compadre in a spot that produces some old military buttons in the past. But will have to wait now until snows gone for good and before the black flies come out. Oh my what a life I can;t take it anymore..... gee between panning for Gold and metal detecting and fishing for some nice speckled trout ... a fellow can get plum tuckered out...

Coil is red also. the switches are pinpoint, silence, battery check, all metal, blanker. disc. three functions per switch. Great unit and air test to original field test specs.
