The beaches that I hunt seem to be reluctant to give up their treasures. Friday I went to the same area of the beach that I worked a couple of weeks ago.
As usual dug a little clad. A couple of lead sinkers. Only one junk ear ring came out of the sand. About an hour before dead low tide I was working in the surf wash zone and dug a large mens band that I initially thought might be white gold. I could not see what the hallmark in the ring was and I am a bit reluctant to do a real close examination in the presence of hundreds of beach goers. I kept looking at the ring on the trip home and decided that it was a bit on the light side to be gold based on the size of the ring.
A 20X loupe confirmed my suspicions that it was sterling. 8.8 grams.
When I first saw it in the scoop I will admit that my heart rate went up quite a bit. Oh well Maybe next time the beach will treat me better.
