Relic Mode

I see a lot of folks hunt in relic mode what are the advantages ? When i try it i always see Buckle on the screen ?

:crazy:I caught myself watching the display screen to much and not minding the repeatable signals.Hunted primarily in the coin/jewelry mode until I had to send the mxt off for a check-up,a hunting buddie let me use a cz7 and I liked the high-low tones, started using relic mode on the mxt over the weekend in a area I've been over many times, was digging all signals just to see what the machine was doing.I prefer the alternate search mode-low tone on targets below dual control/discrimination settings-high tones on accepted targets this setting is trigger forward, trigger center is primary search mode all targets will be heard with the iron targets sounding with the grunt that is heard in prospecting. However if your search is truly for relics the primary mode is the setting you need.Another thing that the relic mode has done for me is I'm now hearing the deeper targets better because of the tones.:chase:

Well sounds like you have it mastered thanks for the info I will try it tomorrow and see what happens thanks again Butch

Only my humble opinion Butch, hope it helps!you'll have plenty of post to go on in the next few days,I've found the folk on forum willing to share insight.May the earth open to you that which she has consumed-:detecting:

I guess that would depend on WHERE you are hunting..
If hunting in a high trash environment, I would stick to the Coin/jewelry mode...
If NOT, I rock the Relic setting... But that's probably because I like the tones..

So as a rule I stick to the relic mode and switch to c/j when it's "dirty"

I'm loving my MXT and the only time it's been in relic mode is when I bump the toggle switch. I know the machine has a lot of other tricks and techniques I can access when I learn it but I'm having so much fun right now that I'm trying to learn and understand what I'm doing NOW before I head into uncharted waters ( for me ) as far as different modes, settings etc. I really want to understand all of the basics of detectors and their features before I try and apply them to new hunting techniques. All of the advice ( like yours jwilkes ) is helping me to reach that point. Thank you.

I use relic mode all the time ,I've been using the MXT300 for a whole 4 days now LOL, what i have learned so far is on relic mode all coins that are good go over 70 VDI and say Buckle,Zinc pennies go on 60 somethings and say Buckle, Nickels and gold rings 18 and above an say Button , Once i get a Nickel(Button)Reading i switch to Coin and jewelery and hit the switch forward if the sound breaks up at all i don't dig, if it doesn't i dig :detecting:and almost all the time find a soda can top LOL.

:yikes:You may want to note in notching out pull tabs that the repeatable signal of a war nickel will become broken and easily disregarded as trash.I learned this lesson!

Oh wow thanks for the advice didn't know that.See I'm so glad there are veterans here that have gone through some MXT experiences to teach others ,I thank you.

:detecting:The veteran was following in behind me so to speak and dug the signal I notched out (1942 nickel/war nickel) - dig them pull tabs it will pay off/I learned that from bertman:thumbup:

Thanks again, i guess we all learn something new everyday.
