Relic Mode, Trigger Foward, Disc 0.....

Way, way too noisy. Constant noise for me, no matter what the gain setting. I flip the trigger back to center and all is fine. I've been using my MXT for 2 years now and know if well, but this mode is unusable.
What do you other users find when using this mode?

Hi,
Well, why would you run "0" disc with the trigger forward? Trigger forward suppresses the low iron tones you get by running a higher disc setting.
I usually run in relic mode, disc set at "2" and trigger centered. But if I get into thick iron trash kicking the trigger forward does reduce the noise level from the constant low tones.
For coin "cherry picking" I crank the disc to max in relic mode, and trigger forward is a must at this point to shut down all the low tones. Works fine for me!
I suspect kicking the trigger forward with the disc set at "0" simply introduces more noise than it eliminates.

increase depth on the MXT. all I know is it won't work for me.

I have found using th C/J mode has a better depth on gold items,(at preset)than relic or propecting. But have increase the gain to the + side in relic and propecting to get the same depth. I hunt mainly beach, so this may be different in another soil condition.

crank the sens. wide open and the disc. to zero. Non-ferrous still comes in good and and marginal targets
come in as iron BUT the ID calls it right. Deep targets that sound like iron but have a + ID are non-ferrous. On the deeper target with the ID jumping between + and -, it can be either. Of course, your
situation maybe totally different. BUT less disc means more depth in my area. Richardntn

Andrew,
What is your ground reading (check in prospecting mode)? Its high in my area-high 70s to low 80s- and I find the noise that bothers me (when using trigger forward/no disc/relic mode) is the unstable threshold noise, not the low grunt for iron. Anyone else notice this? Of course I tend to hunt old iron infested areas and it could be from the rust flakes permeating the soil...

Trigger forward, relic, zero disc gives a distinct low tone for ferrous and a hi tone for non-ferrous. What's not to like? Soil here is 75-80 or so. Try turning the threshold to barely audible- for me it's not that chatty. I sometimes use a little disc--maybe 2 or so, but don't seem to have much use for it. It seems to work in the UK too.

with trigger forward there is a constant chatter, not a falsing, almost a supressed sound like when the disc is turned up. I get 3-5 of these sounds every swing. I'm not in an iron infested area either. It is clean other than for targets.

In relic mode 0 disc trigger centered all items have a high tone, tirgger forward give iron a low tone, as far as chatter, lower the gain a bit, and adjust the threshold to just under sound, the mxt is a super sensitive detector and your area may not be quite a clean as you think, also after ground balancing set the ground track to loc. In short play with the settings and you can get the chatter to a tolerable level.
