relic mode deeper?

I remember SOMEWHERE either reading, or watching on a video that stated the MXT could detect deeper in relic mode than in coin mode? Does anyone know if that is true? I could not tell from air testing

I have been using relic mode everywhere I hunt, I much prefer the high tone and low grunt, over the tone you get in coin mode. Seems easier to hear the high tone on deeper signals

I see no reason why not to use relic mode when hunting for coins do you? I do not care if the screen says penny or if it says buckle, because I am a dig it all type guy anyhow. I rely more on high/low tone, and sometimes depth. Anything wrong with that?

I use the relic mode ALL the time I am hunting for those deeper targets. Depending on where you have your discrimination set at, everything that has that high pitch is a dig specially when it's deep! We hunt alike! There's NOTHING wrong with that. IMHO and HH to all, Nancy

I also hunt for coils a lot using the relic mode. One "expert" claims the relic is deeper and another goes for the C/J. I've never found any claim by Whites either way, Rob

I've never read any any info on the relic mode going "deeper" either. I like all the modes, but for hunting small deep items, I like the relic mode the best. HH to all, Nancy

I also hunt in the relic and prospecting mode most of the time. I hardly ever pay any attention to what the display says but what I hear.

I hunt a lot in Relic Mode. I do think it's a bit deeper than C&J, but I like Prospecting best of all. There are subtle variations in sound even though it's an "all metal" mode. I believe it's actually the deepest, but maybe it's my imagination.

Well, all metal should be the deepest, at least in theory. Stands to reason though as nugget picking requires the most gain for the smaller, deeper pieces.

Sorry to disagree peeps C & J is deeper. I was the first to sing the MXT's praises back in 2003 on the Whites Owners. I always used Relic mode but dread to think what I went over. Most people set it in Relic and flick it to C & J and it sounds really noisey. The SECRET is drop the Threshold down just enough to calm it, you won't lose depth..........Turn the Volume up in your phones.

I think this proves it I was on mineralized soil and looking for a target as thin as foil and as small as 20mm x 7 mm a cut half hammered coin at 4 " if I was lucky

Better Quality

I have noticed the audio response is steady in C/J, whereas it is softer with a deep target in Relic.

I prefer relic for the type of hunting I do, probably because I have become comfortable with it over time.

I revisited C/J mode today after reading this post. I discovered this mode nulls out iron MUCH better than relic. I can see where C/J would be advantageous if you dig everything. Set the null where you want, and dig away! That style of hunting can get pretty frustrating amongst modern trash.

I would guess the MXT is calibrated for modern US currency. Since the targets you are after looks to be smaller, wouldn't the prospecting mode be even more suited to what you are doing, Toddy? According to 'MXT The Edge', you get more power (depth) due to the fact the filters are not used in this mode. Have you ever experimented with prospecting mode?

Thanks for your post Scott, I'll post back when I have tested it a bit more on my ground.
