I dug these two pieces on two separate days from the same field this week. I am having trouble even getting guesses on what it is. It's 5" x 2" at it's extremes. Made of brass. This is a field where an 1800's house once stood. It was also a prison farm in the 1800's. Any guesses?

I have no idea!?! The upper end looks as if some sort of stap would slip through it....maybe used on the prison farm??? Just a shot in the dark. Will be interesting to find out for sure....
