Relic Hunting

Coinseeker 78

New member
How does the use of an Explorer SE compare to other detector brands for Relic hunting? I know the SE is a great coin hunter but have not heard much about using it for relic hunting. I have heard the Explorers are not to good on detecting gold. With the range of frequencies available for detecting it would seem to be capable for about anything.

It will pick up gold fine, as long as it isn't tiny. As far as relic hunting goes, the Explorer does very well. The only down side is the weight, if you are searching a large area with few signals another lightweight detector might make a good compliment to it.
The Explorer series isn't a good choice for prospecting for gold since it is mainly thought of as hitting harder on medium and high conductors.
It even does well on low conductors such as nickels.
There are a lot of folks that relic hunt with Explorers, I relic hunt with my Explorer and it is my first choice for the task.
