Can't seem to get the hang of my MXT. Would welcome any suggestions. I have a 6x10 ,a 14 DD , a4x6 DD ,and the original equipment coil. HELP Bob

Hi Bob. There's many very experienced users here and I'm sure there's help -lurking- but you're just a little bit vague on what it is that you're having trouble with. If you can narrrow it down a bit I think that might help you find some answers. If you have the manual, that actually does a fairly decent job in giving an idea of where to begin using the various modes etc. etc. If you don't have one, you can d-load one at whiteselectronics.com. It's helpful to read it through and then maybe even another time or two.

Can,t get a good lockon on VDI and sometimes I get a good signal and when I dig it goes away. Bob

You will soon get the hang of it. Experience is the best teacher. Forget cranking up the gain into the plus numbers for now. A setting just over 10 should be the highest to use for learning and the preset position or lower is better if you are hunting heavily trashed sites.
ALSO FORGET THE VDI... spend your time listening to and learning the sounds of targets.
Tom

they had the same advise on the QXT also, takes alot of practice.

With mine I was finding 22 and 177 cal pellets the other night. Was driven me nuts, then after I found the first one the rest were easy to spot.

Relic mode: 3cent nickel=8-10, old nickel 16-20, Indian head (fatty) 35, Indianhead most around 50-60, Alot of old brass tags, buttons, ect. can be anywhere depends on size same as gold objects. Any positives I dig cause you never know.

To repeat what the others have said - dig a lot of targets and listen to your machine. The targets that "go away" after you start digging should give you a clue when you first pass over them - listen if the tone is 'clipped' (in comparison, listen to your tone if you pass over a good target); does the VDI jump around with each pass or does it stay stable. Most good targets will give a clear solid sounding tone and the VDI doesn't bounce around much; the junk targets and hot rocks/mineralization will give the broken or clipped sounding tones and the VDI is all over.
Listen carefully and dig absolutely everything until you begin to learn your machine.
