Relic hunting with the LTD

Jason in TN

New member
I have been playing with the LTD and have found that for relics forget all the discriminate modes and hunt all metal.
It is much deeper and with sensitivity at 99 it is deeper than any thing I have used and I have used them all.
On the real deep targets the display will jump around a good bit. any thing that jumps to 20 or better dig it
it probably is not iron. Give it a try been pullin bullets out of some pounded sites.

Good hunting

Jason

I wonder if the all metal mode on the regular F75 is the same as the LTD?

The all metal with the LTD is significantly deeper in BP or CL mode. DE, etal. are the same as the original F 75.

I thought the BP and CL modes were discrimination modes, not all metal modes. But I'm still learning the F75, so I could very well be wrong. Please let me know, I may be interested in getting one as well. Thanks and HH

I've read posts alluding that it's possible, but I don't understand how that works.

Also, when I use All metal, it seems that the disc. numbers don't work.

Can anyone out there give directions on using BP/CL in all metal.

Thanks in advance;

Greg

What ever mode you put the F75 or F75 LTD in it will carry over to the All-Metal mode. I know if you use the BP mode it will try and pick up your shovel if you have it in your hand. I put mine in PF mode and it is not so bad about going off on you shovel and you still can get good depth if you run it up to 99. If you are hunting relics in a old camp and they are alot of nails set the sen. on 14 and 4H tones. Dig all the 3 high tones. This is what works for me. Bear

You must have a nice clean field?

The spots I am using this have been pounded.
There is a good bit of Iron and it is a slow go
when you get in the iron but if you want to dig
relics at these spots this is the way to go.

Got several bullets and a eagle button doing this at
a pounded spot today.

Good info and good timing. My new F-75 LTD came in this week and I have it ready to go. I hope this thread continues with more tips on settings.

If you set to BP or CL in disc mode and then switch over to AM it will remain in BP or CL mode. Then you are hunting in BP or CL and AM.

I hate to sound like the village idiot, but what does BP, AM, and CL mean. I'm getting lost in all these abbreviations here. What does "then you are hunting in BP or CL in AM" mean?

I tried static AM + boost mode yesterday and it was insane, but deep. Pulled an old spoon from an area that has been POUNDED to death.

The LTD didn't work out for me though. I found it too unstable to use here in the Athens/Cleveland, TN area, even out of the boost mode and into regular modes. No EMI or pulse machines around where I hunted at either. LOL. I wish I had my old F-75 back (the one in the videos), cause she was a beast and handled anywhere I took her. But you are correct. I found out early on that all metal was the way to go with it, and have been preaching it every since.

Nice video Daniel, really drives the point home. I've hunted in soil in CA where the FeO3 meter reads .3, 1.0 or even 3.0, but always used disc mode, I'll try AM mode next time I get in hot ground (which is more often then not out here).

I've read that static all metal goes even deeper then motion all metal. If that's the case, would you use static AM all the time when hunting in AM mode?

Static mode will keep you on your toes. You get a lot of threshold/signal drifting in static all metal. It's actually a non motion all metal mode, and I guess if you could get use to resetting the threshold, that it would be okay. I just personally preferred the motion all metal side.

When I first got the 75, I ran it in disc mode like I did everything else. I usually ran it on around 5 or so. Now using that, I did find quite a few things in places I'd hunted with about every machine I'd ever had. I was very happy with its performance in that. BUT I noticed in one particular site (a newly developed subdivision) that the underground light wires and other EMI was causing me a lot of grief. It would chatter so bad it was unhuntable unless you got away from those areas. By mistake, I switched into the All Metal side, and noticed it was pretty quiet. I thought I was going crazy, but in the LTD manual it stated that the all metal side would do exactly that around interference. So that said, I just started giving all metal a try in that site, since I could hunt in areas I couldn't in disc and there wasn't a lot of trash. Well it was like I had opened up a whole new site. Minie balls started coming out like crazy...and then I started hunting the spots I had covered well in disc mode, and started pulling more and more out of each place I went back and visited again. By then, I was using all metal exclusively and done the YouTube vid back in Sept '08 so that I could show folks exactly what I was describing on the forums and such.

Don't even think about giving it a turn up at the end of your swing. You will have to always pull the trigger to reset it (re-tune). If you are getting a lot of noise drop the Threshold down to say -3 or -2. You only lose about .5" from 0 threshold and I have to play around with the Freqs. I find that F6 works best for me in my dirt and area and the places I hunt and I hunt a lot of noisy trashy places. :D: :D: Later Jerry aka Tinfoil
