relic hunting in VA

Hello all. Just wondering if anyone had suggestions for areas in VA to relic hunt. I know that's a broad statement - I guess I'm just asking for general areas where civil war battles/skirmishes occured where there is not significant development and where the sites are not national parks.

This coming weekend Ma and I are free from our other hobby (we're weekend warrior musicians) and I've been considering taking a drive down into Ole Virginny to knock on some farmer's doors to ask for permission to relic hunt.

I'm not asking for anyone's secret spot or anything - just a little guidance. Seems like every battle I look into is a national park or a thousand townhouses. Knowwhatimean?

Thanks in advance.

ma & pa, don't forget construction sites, i have hunted these for years and have never been chased away, it is good to get permission, but sometimes you will run up on a site and there will be quite a few people detecting there, join the crowd, but don't cross over if the site is posted. virginia had activity all over, but anywhere near a major battlefield is your best shot for a few minnies or some good old civil war brass. good luck, bob n.

Anywhere from Fredericksburg to Manassas is good, and from Manassas to Luray, along 66. I've found that if you ask quite a few folks will let you hunt. Good luck.
