I have an Eldorado because I don't need two discriminators for relic hunting. Most relic hunters run in all metal, unless there is a lot of trash and then use discrimination to help tell what's there. Problem with discrimination is that it robs you of depth (or so I'm told). I need to run some tests in the near future and see just how much depth you lose, because if by checking with discrimination you lose borderline targets, it doesn't seem like such a good practice. The Eldorado allows me to manually ground balance and use the larger 12X10 concentric coil for a uMax machine. In moderate to slightly bad soil it still runs smooth and gets good depth with this coil.
I like the depth readout and rough ID that the MXT affords and I like the lightness of the Tesoros. Too bad somebody doesn't make a simple machine that just combines the best of both machines, that pinpoints with uncanny accuracy, gives a general size ID, a depth readout that can be calibrated based on the coil in use at the time, and a conductivity reading of some kind, AND above all is fairly lightweight and durable (3lbs. or less). The problem with having a machine that does everything (coin shooting, relic hunting, and prospecting) is that it will be the best at nothing of these things. I know some will argue with this statement, but when the supply of relics is beginning to dry up, what are most of us after, depth right? To go where no one has gone before.
