Relic hunting advice

I found a post war goverment survey of a battle. The map done two years after the war ended has the trench lines clearly marked. The area now is all forest.

I hiked in the woods about a mile looking for a place where two union lines came together to form a single line. I found them. The lines join each other at about a 25% angle with a pie shaped area spreading out between them. The Rebel lines are about 300 yards away.

I hunted for about an hour and found two dropped minnies. The only human signs I saw was a part of a pull top can so I don't expect the area has been pounded much with modern equipment. It is a pretty big area and I like some advice on where to hunt first.

The battle never really happened at these trenches. The two forces entrenched and starred at each other for a couple of days. The union then withdrew.

The option would be:
1. Hunt in the confederate trench line or the Union trench line. The lines have caved in over time and any artifacts would likely be deeper than I could detect.

2. Hunt between the Union and Rebel lines focusing on the opposing trench faces. There was not much of a fight here so would this be worthwhile.

3. Hunt behind the conferderate or union lines. Would that be where the majority of the camps/relics be? Is so should I focus on the union since that had more stuff to lose?

4. Hunt the pie shaped area between the two union lines? It is very narror where the lines meet but spread out with up to 100 yards between them near the end.

Thanks......

Hey Hanover.....

The area you describe reminds me of an area i used to hunt near the Battle of Chancellorsville.

I'd hunt the Confederate line as the rlics a much more valuable (generally speaking)

If there are trenchs I rake out the leaves and mulch and so I can get down deeper.
