Relic hunt suggestion - disc or no disc?

detectorbase

New member
I'm planning on doing some relic hunting at a old lumber camp near my town. The good thing with this area.. no new trash. I mean.. none!!

So, the question is this. I've been using the new Minelab SE and been using it in all metal and ferrous tones. This is what I ideally hunt for coins in the city with. Now, when I go out in a relic environment, should I apply a little disc to get the small high ferrous items out (ie: nails?) or still leave it wide open.

I stated that this site is low in new trash.. but it's extremely heavy in old trash, mainly broken pieces of cans. I'll bring my 5" to see if I can pick around stuff. The other important point is that almost everything is on the surface. It's a camp from the very early 1900s.. most likely 1900-1905 and the ground is real rocky. That's why nothing gets very deep.

I've pulled out various buckels, buttons and shell casings, and those would traditionally ring in the higher conductive areas.. so not quite sure about how I need to go about this with my new SE. I use to hit this area with my whites running 'base' coin program years ago.

Thanks!

This way you will get no Nulling of Targets and the detector will respond faster and you will also be able to hear those Conductive Targets that are next to Iron Junk better. Just do a Noise Cancel and see where you can run the Sensitivity at and give it a shot. You may want to also run in Manual, then you will get Maximum Depth allowed and remember to work Slowly. I hope you do good at your site and look forward to your post after you return from this site of yours. Hope you find a few nice Keepers. Good Luck and HH Detectorbase!
