relic/gold hunting in the philippines? what unit should i use?

hi all! im a newbie to the world of detecting so please excuse my ignorance. ive been spending alot of time in the philippines and need advice on what detector to buy. the island i reside on has a basically volcanic type of ground. it has an active (only just) volcanoe on it. its pretty mountainous.i dont know if there gold there, but i know a few hundred miles to the sth theres gold mines. the spanish were there many years ago and the japanese and americans fought there. this led me to thinking there may be some old spanish treasures and war items of interest there. theres no beaches and the coastlines pretty rocky with muddy sand. the city we go to from time to time has a heap of man made beaches in front of the resorts that attract wealthy patrons.it may be worth staying there a few days just to comb the beaches. so all in all can anyone offer me some advice in what to buy that wont cost an arm and a leg & would handle the soil types and the beach combing? thanks! phil...

If you are new and want a metal detector that is easy to use. You want one to do the things you asked. you should get a White's MXT. There are other metal detectors that can do the job, but cost more and are much harder to use.

the MXT would be a good choice. Also check on a couple of coils to go along with it, like a small coil to work the trashy areas. Check out the Excelerator 6" DD coil from Kellyco and the 6x10 White's coil. Good luck with your choices. HH Dennis in Idaho
