Relic Digging Tools Survey

O.K. Guys, I'd like to know everyones success with a good shovel or tool for digging deep targets in the woods, construction sites, or farm fields. I presently use a custom made 2" beveled half-moon style stainless steel shovel. I occassionally use a military entrencing tool shovel. I wish the military entrencing shovel had a much longer handle, it PLAYS HELL ON YOUR BACK! The 2' wide half-moon shovel needs to have a thinner and wider blade. What is your most successful choices for digging DEEP TARGETS in the field? Many Thanks, hh, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker

I use a fold up shovel similar to the military Etool for most all digging. The military Etool costs around $40.00 these days. HH, Mike

Heck used a (floral shovel) small imitation of a spade on beaches for years. Has long handle and smaller shovel type. Although the military shovel has a short handle and is heavy the newest version is a much lighter entrenching tool..Try the Floral shovel its cheap 10-15 bucks has a long handle for fulcrum, goes right thru roots and should work well in your situation and its not really heavy as it larger heavier brothers...Many nice shovels being sold commercially for this purpose, but are usually extremely heavy, tough on the wallet and won't last any longer than the floral shovel...

Heres a shovel I use.Its 26" long with plastic handle, wood shaft and metal spade. It is very sturdy and wieghts 1 and 3/4 pounds. You can purchase them at walmart for $7.97 cents.

Hey Wayne, Check out Ron's AAA/Dixie Metal Detectors
Website, he is one of Findmall Sponsors. He has the some at a Good Price! Also, you can check your local camping supply store, as some of them carry some military surplus shovels at good prices. U.S. Military Entrenching Shovels run around $25.00 in my local Army-Navy Surplus Stores which I think is VERY EXPENSIVE! I've even seen some in antique shops, for around $10-$15. Some Thrift shops might have them for around $5-$10. Personally, I prefer the East German Entrenching Shovel with a folding Pick end. They are very sturdy, but due to SHORT HANDLE, THEY ARE HARD ON YOUR BACK! I got mine locally for $13.00 at my local SUNNY'S Camping/Sporting Goods Store. DAMM COMMIES made some DAMM GOOD TOOLS/WEAPONS!
Good luck, hh, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker

Many THANKS to Jim Houston/Dan-Pa., and Bavaria Mike for taking the time to respond. Dan, I'm going to look into that Floral Shovel, due to length of handle/price range! HH, NamVetLesTreasureSeek
