Relic coil

..... Soil conditions - mild soil or highly mineralized soil? Trash - lots of trash on site or little trash on site? I relic hunt with all the coils that fit the MXT. For me it just depends on the site conditions I'll be working in, then I'll select the coil I believe would best work a specific site. If I work a trashy site, I'll put on the 5.3 eclipse. If I'm working in Central VA with the highly mineralized soil conditions, I put on the D2 or the 6 X 9 elliptical. If I'm out in a farm field in Central PA, I'll put on the Super 12. Just depends on the sites I'm working, they all work fine for relic hunting as far as I'm concerned.

I've been quite pleased with either the 9.5 or the 12" in low trash areas. I get good depth from both and extra ground coverage from the 12". If you hunt often in heavier mineralization, you may want one of the larger double D designs. My two bits.

Barber Bill knows his stuff. I also use the eclipse 5.3 for heavy trash area's and the 15.18 SEF butterfly coil for open low trash area's. ( that big sef coil still picks up .2gram targets so you are not loosing any sensitivity.)
