It's wedge shaped (can't see this in the side view pic). The pointer is mounted in a slot and the dovetailed piece appears that it rode in a mated groove of some sort. The other end if broken off. Thanks for any info.

Hey John! Well at least we know that there's at least two of them in existence 
Is there any indication of a place to attach the pointer like on mine? Any ideas on what it is? Thanks for posting it.....Erik
