REGARDING SWING SPEED OF TESORO MACHINES

Hey gang, been reading posts here till I'm blurry eyed. First off, I'm a 76 year old Canadian boy. I just got back into the hobby after a 25 year absense, I bought a little Ace 250 and it works quite well, but....
After using it for 2 months I feel I'm missing goodies and am considering moving up in the world. My question, do all of the TESOROS require a rather fast sweep as opposed to the slow sweep of the Ace. You see I can only hunt for an hour and a half and get tired. If I have to swing at a faster clip I'm probably gonna tire faster. Appreciate any input, thanks in advance. Problem here is there are no local dealers so I have to rely on the net to be informed

First off let me say that I think it is great that at your age (no offense) that you still are detecting. Second I am half Canadian myself (my Dad is from Ontario originally)& proud of it. And lastly I too have had a Garrett Ace 250 (nice little machine) and recently just traded it in for a Tesoro Cibola. Although the Cibola doesn't have the TID ( on screen readouts of targets, depth, etc.) I like it very much. Nice deep seeking machine, very very light, well made, one 9 volt battery, very good at pinpointing, can pretty well determine if a target will be good or junk with discrimination, not to mention a lifetime warranty. And you do "NOT" have to swing it fast to use it. I live in a very small town in upstate New York and have a very small park that I have detected the beans out with a Fisher Cz 6a/White's Prizm II/Garrett Ace250/Discovery 3300/White's Classic III/ and took the Cibola there and walked away with a pocket full of coins and a little bit of jewelry. I think that you would really enjoy the Cibola or any other Tesoro machine. Sorry to be so long winded. Steve.

Ski Whiz is on the money! ;) both with the Cibola and the speed... no need to hurry... take your time! That's what life is about... and why have a unit that causes a fast swing speed? I would guess the speed is comperable to the Ace 250...
:canadaflag: from one Canadian to another! Enjoy!

thanks guys for the info. Don't get me wrong Rich, I think the 250 is great, but...I really think I'm missing out in some of the areas we (Judy and I) have worked.

There are lots of choices out there and Tesoro is certainly one of them! The vaquero has been a very popular seller here... as is the Cibola for coin shooting!... no readouts ... but DEPTH!... let me know if I can help further!.... best...Rich

Mine seems to work best at about 1 sec per sweep but it will work slower. One good thing is they are light. My vaquero only weighs 2.2 pounds.

Tucker, the Tesoro's can be swung at just about any speed. I have seen people at competition hunts swing them like they were using a sickle and they can also be slowed down to a crawl. When I find a target, I don't even use the pinpoint or all metal, I just barely creep the coil to "X" the spot. Another plus for a gentleman your age is the weight, they are like a feather compared to others. Also, any of the newer "HOT" detectors will go very deep. R.L.

Depending on your Disc. setting. As any other unit, set to eliminate the items you want to discriminate against. If a signal if found, a faster, movement is made over the target. If it breaks or it is silent...it most likely is JUNK...But if sound remains, pinpoint with the red pinpoint button.. and "If in Doubt,DIG!'
...best..rich

Right... I do not mean ...'all the time' just if and when a signal if doubtful, a quick swing may tell you the answer before you dig! Now this does not mean a grass cutting swing, just a quick side to side movement once should be the indicator... ALWAYS dig if you are not sure... It might be a coin on end, a thin gold ring..etc... OK?.. Have fun!...

It is kind of hard to explain. I can't exactly always tell what the target will be before I dig it. But most of the time when pinpointing a target and the Cibola makes a quick beep then goes away quick after passing the target it is usually a coin. When pinpointing and I get a beeeep (long beep over the target in pinpoint mode) it is usually a larger target (junk). Hope I make sense. Steve.

Thanks Steve. Makes perfect sense. I'm swinging an Ace 250 at the moment, and get a result like that some of the time. Thought I was on to something when I discovered that, but when I employed it on the Ace, my finds dropped by two thirds.
Mick Evans.

Hey... Thanks to the others for their input! I only pass on what I have learned! I certainly have been fooled by broken signals over the last year...It is a learning experience... especially in trashy ground. I compared the Cibola to the Ace in a trashy test plot that I have set up.. along with a M6... the large coils definitely have a problem... however, the 5.75" coil shone...BUT.. that is a whole different topic!....
