Redundant I'm sure, but the new (to me) IDX Pro is a sweet machine!

Been lurking about here for what seems like decades. Having owned and used many machines from various manufacturers, I had yet to own a White's land machine until just recently...

Many posters over the years have been extolling the virtues of the IDX Pro, so I finally got my hands on one and found out that there wasn't a liar among them!

After many years of using GTA-type machines, I found the IDX to be very intuitive to use, coins just 'jump' up out of the ground. Nickels, I've found, will often hit on the nickel segment and 'fade' just a bit over into foil, Signals that fade the other direction are usually 'tabs. First time out on a well-worked soccer field, 48 coins and a silver ring. My buddies using machines with which they are more familiar got a few less.

The machine looks a bit unwieldy/heavy at first glance, but balances very nicely. Love the 6" BlueMax coil on this machine too. One of my test targets is a nickel buried about 5.5" deep. Most of my other 10 machines can't detect it. The IDX Pro does.

Again, just a White's land machine newbie (been using a Surf II for years), but still, quite impressed. My thanx to those, especially Monte who's posts convinced me to give this 'tector a try!

 Skillet, Dito on the IDX Pro! I have used one since 2001 and its the best machine I have ever used. You probably know that the IDX Pro is the top-of-the-line of the very popular Classic series of the 1990's. Many people are asking Whites to reproduce the IDX Pro and include tone ID, backlight, and depth meter.
Also , just a tip for you.........this unit will ID in all metal mode and that will get you really deep! Happy HUnting , DF.:jump:

I've got an IDX that I had Mr. Bill mod. With the adjustable threshold and GB it even works better. His boost circuit makes my IDX deeper. How much deeper on the IDX Pro I'm not sure. The Blue Max 600 will read a dime at 8". Rob

Does anyone know the differences in performance of these two machines? they look interesting.
TIA

The Classic IDX & IDX Pro is a ID version of the Classic III. No longer in production.

The Classic 5 ID is a Classic ID, (based on a Classic II), set up to use the newer Prism coils, and made exclusively for KellyCo. It would be similar to a Classic ID, not the Classic IDX Pro.

Modifications are available for all models.

I think the biggest difference is the operating frequency. The Classic 5 ID operates at 8 rather than 6.59 like the regular classic models. This means it can't use the regular classic, XL Pro, XLT, etc. coils. The 5 ID lacks the frequency adjust and black sand switches like the IDX and IDX Pro. There is no difference between an IDX and IDX Pro after they are modified by Mr. Bill. The external GB in the mod is what makes them easy to fine tune for maximum operation. The regular classics and the 5 ID have an internal trimmer to change the GB.

Also the 5ID is in production and the IDX - IDX Pro are not.
