Hello,
This is the counterfeit $3 coin I have previously spoke about. It is an 1882 counterfeit, and it is real 10k gold. The owner would like to get $250.00
Thanks for looking

Sometimes counterfiets are worth a bunch --- more than the actual coins they copied even.

Any idea how old this coin is?

The "Omega Man" produced these in the early 1970's. The dealer I took it to was almost certain it was one of his counterfeits. Google "Omega Man counterfeits" and you can find out info on him. He has never been captured.
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes these are worth more than melt.

Jeff

Where is the omega sign located on this coin?

I'm not sure. I don't even know if he put them on the $3 gold pieces, or just the $10 & $20 pieces.
Sent you a pm as well Jason.
Thanks for all the info you guys are sending. I may advise my friend to hang onto this coin. If it can be proven an authentic "Omega Man" as the dealer suggested it was, it could be worth quite a bit more than I realized. I am going to call him now, and see what he wants to do. Thanks for all the info.

The omega is located on all of the omega coins but is almost if not impossible to see it with the naked eye. If it's not on the coin it would most likely be the real deal.

He already told you it was 10K. A real coin is 22K, .900 pure.

True...you are correct Larry...my mistake

My understanding of the "omega man" fakes is that he still used the correct karat weight of the coin(s). Not the lesser weights like 10K. I am no expert though.

You are right "therick", the "omega man" did still used the correct karat weight of the coins he counterfeited.
