Yepper, Pap. Thanks. I like to stay close to home and get to know my hunt beaches intimately. I can generally tell how long one takes to fill with goodies and how long it takes to find the stuff. I try to work a circuit and currently I have 4 sites in the rotation.
Now that Golden is piece of work! I simply love the thing. It is one of the most underrated models out there. Simple to adjust yet oh, so, effective. Last season I hit the local fairgrounds often, an area which was littered with lightbulb bases from the rides. The Carnies just toss them on the ground when they burn out.
The Golden is the only unit I own with enough separation and refined DISC to allow me to work through the bulbs and still get nickles, even while ID'ing tabs. That is some midrange magic, right there. Oh, it detected a quarter at right at ten inches, too.
In the water, the ID audio range is ideal. for those who dont know it heres how the tones are arranged:
Group One
Low tone ........... iron - foil
Mid range tone 1 ... foil - nickels/tabs/gold
Mid range tone 2 ... tabs - gold/screwcaps/Zc cents
High tone .......... Cu cents - silver
There are also two other tones:
Group Two
Double beep ........ Large target, close to coil
Rolling tone ....... Iron and iron mix/shaped targets. This is close to infallible.
For those who haven't ventured into the H20 to hunt, here's a tidbit for you: Nearly all trash in the water falls squarely into one of the ranges shown in Group One AND targets are usually well separated. Sometimes I'll go minutes without a real signal and when I get one, it is usually easy to ID accurately. It is all very discrete and neat. Plus I can always take dip when I want and there are the ever present "water sprites" in their string bikinis to liven up the scenery.
I simply MUST make a water detector out of the Golden!
