Red Racer or 1st Racer

Well-known member
Hi All , Dose anyone still use the Red Racer? I have a Racer Pro Pack, just like it came from the dealer, I have used it two or three times. This is about 1 year old and I need to try and use it or sell it. Dose anyone still dig the 82#? To me it is almost always trash. What is the best way to hunt with the thing, just dig all or just some # or what? If anyone can tell me the best way to set it up and what to dig, I will try and use it. If not I need to sell it for I have 9 detectors and use the Deus and MXT most of all. Thanks for any info. flintstone

I didn't get the racer 2 I kept my racer 1 and I don't pay attention to VDI numbers when relic hunting. If the racer sees the target and I can get a tone even mixed with iron I dig it. I think the racers are some of the best machines on the market if not the best. The racer one is raw so you have to learn it like I did and when you do it's almost all I need. For those that want more to program you have the racer 2. So you can't lose but the racer 1 is a bit tougher to understand than the 2. For me again hands down if it ain't broke why get another machine.

I still use my Red Racer if relic hunting. I don't pay much attention to the vdi and mainly use the OOR coil unless I am prospecting then I use the 5x10. If I am around a lot of disintegrated tin I use the Deus as I dig less tin with it. For coin hunting I just bought a CTX3030. Use the right tool for the job. The Red Racer is a hell of a relic hunter.

i also use the red racer and i think the ID numbers are ok but tone is the way to go with this unit I'm a little discouraged about the quality of the plastic they used for the unit but over all great unit and i have no need for another detector unless I'm going too water hunt .

Thanks sasquache, I have had mine almost a year and only used it two or three times, seams like everything comes in at VDi 82 and it is trash most of the time. I am going to give it a few weeks of hunting and if I don't get use to it I will sell. I think I just have to many detectors ( 9 ).

It's in the audio, learn it or go ahead and keep digging junk. It's a must and the TID is pretty accurate too just that's where you need to learn that short nice sounding report.

Thanks JFLY, I am 80 to 90% deaf in each ear, that is why I need VDis. Even with aids in each ear I can't tell the deffance in audio.
