I've been kicking around this question for a while and figured that it might be relevant. As a preface, I have an MXT and, whilst considering the purchase of a V3, ran across a post on the White's official forum that got me thinking. The MXT seems to be the detector to beat (disregarding Fisher) when it comes to rapid recovery speed in target rich areas but.. I've noticed that there's a significant delay when the coil is first passed over a target like a bent nail. Did some tests using non-ferrous only targets vs. a mix and found that the MXT tends to 'blank' out for a bit when the iron is hit first. Now, my question is whether the V3 exhibits this same trait or can it be adjusted so that it has the same recovery speed regardless of target composition? I've found that, with the MXT, I have to slow right down in any area I suspect of having nails 'n such and it would be nice to have a detector that could be swept fast(er) in such areas.
A second question relates to DD coils and iron; the MXT (maybe due to the highly mineralized ground I hunt over) pretty much sux when it comes to knocking out many bottle caps (and some other types of iron) with the DD's. How does the V3 fare vs. an MXT in this respect? ..Willy.
