Recovery settings.

I have two questions about recovery setings which have me wondering, and I hope the experts here might help me with.
Firstly: if no option is selected in recovery (fast or deep both left blank) what is the machine doing? I was testing out machine and noticed that the machine works with no option selected.
Secondly: I have read that some XS users select both Fast and Deep together. Does this work, and if so what type of ground conditions would benefit from selecting Fast and Deep together. Or should Fast and Deep ALWAYS be selected together?
Tried Fast and Deep together today but no real results, but that is probably just coincidence.

I think Fast is a selection that speeds the recovery speed up, meaning that if You pass the coil over an object and there is another target within a short distance of the first it will reset and read the second target better in Fast.Fast would be helpful in trashy spots or where many targets are burried. I also think that Deep is just a Boost in sensitivity. I may be very wrong but that is what I think...LOL

Thanks for contri. I understand what each does individually, but what and how do they work if both selected together? Also what mode is the machine in when NEITHER fast nor deep is selected, yet machine still works?

I almost always use Fast. But this site goes into a little more detail plus has a lot of other good info.
