Recovery delay

Texas-Steve

New member
I have the VX3 and I was wondering if I wanted a slower sweep speed do I increase recovery delay or decrease. Right now in coin and jewelry mine is set at 80.
Thanks for any advice, Steve

Yes, the higher the recovery delay number, the longer the delay. Some of us run it up to 90 or 100 in clean ground and others will speed it up to 45 or faster in trashy ground.

The SLOWER you sweep, the longer your coil is over the target, and the longer the Spectra is getting data, so the SLOWER your RD (higher number) needs to be.

Recovery Delay settings is the delay time that you are imposing on "V" or how long it has to process the first target, and then be ready to process a second target.

If you are in iron infested area and running correlate, you can run a higher RD (as normal) as it seems to give the computer more time to correlate. Some good threads here on running correlate.

I haven't found much difference in depth at all with the different RD settings and I get pretty good unmasking even when the RD is higher, but what the others said is true, lower your RD when the ground is trashier as it will separate/unmask for you better.

I usually run the D2 coil at 90 or so (with correlate on) and the 6X10 coil at 42-50 with correlate on as well. I have gone down as low as 30 or so with the latter but the signals are really short - a bit annoying if you are not used to it.

Enjoy,
EMS

Thanks to all, I was told this before but its hard to remember everything.

It's important to remember that what filter you use also has a lot to do with how fast you sweep. In general the higher the recovery delay (slower) the lower the filter needs to be.

This relationship between filters and recovery delay (speed) is one that is so fundamental. Once you've played with it some (Test gardens RULE in learning this relationship.) it not only means better depth but also better ID in all depth ranges.....and at times a "bad setting/balance" (between the two) can be used as a "detune" to look for something shallow, lost in a mess of deeper trash.

Guess what I'm saying is using it "finely balanced" (to find deeper stuff) is what we mostly do, but......if the need arises.....a "bad" setting can help in finding an earring, hearing aid,"tiny surface something", in a mess.
