Recoveries

I was at the beach today. Didn't find much. It was late in the day when a kid about fourteen years old approached me. He said he lost his bicycle lock key and asked me if I would help him look for it.

You've probably all been there before. I figured the chances were pretty slim only because most people really don't know where they lost something even though they think they do.

Well the kid put me pretty close. It took me about ten minutes to find the key but the relief on that kids face when I showed him the key was priceless. It's been awhile since I made a recovery for somebody but it sure is a good feeling.

I'm in the mood to hear some recovery stories now that this happened today. What can you share?

Be careful as kids can be mischievous or adults for that matter....Have had friends search on the beach for lost jewelry etc.for a period of time and have the people laugh as they just played the detectorist as none were lost. Each situation differs of course and certainly your situation rates an attaboy and is good for the hobby..Have recovered a well worn gold wedding ring of a deceased husband(sentimental with little value) and a $1000.00 diamond tennis bracelet worth a bit and honestly got a good feeling in both instances. Job well done my friend as it certainly enhances the hobby.

I had an old high school teacher of mine call me in a panic. He and his wife had been married for 50 years, had worked together most of those, and were very close. He had lost his wedding ring raking leaves. He was a great guy and super upset by the loss. He asked me to come and look in this huge yard. I took a look around and saw 10 bags of leaves neatly tied up. I asked him to bring them to me one by one. The third leaf bag sounded off and I had the ring back on his hand after being there only five minutes. The look on his face was priceless. I guess that is my raking leaf tip, check the bags first. They wanted to pay me but I told them no. I did get an invite back to hunt that huge yard anytime I wanted. In a small town a lot of people know I hunt and I have been asked to find ground stakes, keys and even a cell phone in the snow. I treat each one like an adventure. It is fun and we help people along the way.
