Ladies and gentlemen, I will soon be blessed by a visit by a pair of forum ledgends. Elson and Falk are heading my way in a couple weeks. Our fun time together will include a trip to the underwater ghost town that Nancy and I hunted over two years ago. The town was covered by water in the '30s by a dam construction. Only on very dry years is the town dried up so we can hunt there, this is one of those years. The last time this happened, we found an amazing bunch of loot, inlcuding a silver dollar and a lot of other coins and tokens that are hard to come by around here.
Friday, my best friend Brent and I took the drive up to this exciting place. Brent had never held a detector in his hands, but used to hunt with me a little in the 60's. He wanted to try the hobby, being recently retired from 34 years of law enforcement. I think he may be hooked.
This is a view the lake looking downstream. My truck is in the center of the pict, and that spot would normally be about 30 feet under water.

The water is going down and exposing some prime hunting.

I spent time with my friend teaching him the basics of detecting. It was all new to him but he picked it up easily. Here he is digging one of many targets. It is a huge area so we hunted off the atv. I did not want to risk being one of the many who bury their vehicles up to the door handles in the muddy bottom.

He called me over from this spot to tell me he had found something good. Man, the look on his face! He had uncovered an old dutch oven, and was covinced it was full of gold. I took a photo of the handle sticking out before we dug it up. I told him if this was a cache, I wanted to document it. He just looked at me and started digging like a badger.

Much to his,(not my) surprise, the lid was all alone and no gold coins to find. The lid is now in my iron garden at my house.

We did not hunt all that long, we both had places to be later in the day, but we found a lot of cool stuff. I will just post this pict of some finds. There is a lot more where these came from!

Take a good look the lake bottom, in few weeks it will look like a Cajun, a Texan, and an Idaho plumber has hit it with a plow! Who knows, Elson might dig up a few Idaho mud bugs!
