Okay... while not a big deal... it sure can be aggravating the first time it happens (depending on how big your posting was)
Okay... here's the scenario.
The last time you (Joe User) left these forums he elected to "Logout"
The next day he discovers something beneficial he wants to share with everyone so he fires up his Internet browser and clicks on his Finds Bookmark.
Looking at the Forum Index he selects the Forum where he wants to post his new message and clicks on "Post New Message" (so far so good?) errr ahhh maybe... Anyway, he goes on to type a small novel with all the Smileys and everything spending a good deal of time to accurately describe the data he wishes to share. :angel
When he thinks he's completed his masterpiece... he clicks on "Preview"
Ah HA!!! Because the User signed off the night before, and did not sign in today, the forum program is smart enough to see the "Your Name" and "Your Email" address fields are blank, so the program generates a system message that says: "Please fill in the author field"
Okay... knowing how to follow instructions, he completes the fields, and click "Preview" again.
This time the forum program generates another system message:
"The name you entered is already registered by another user. If you are that user, please login. Otherwise, please use another name."
Okay... you follow the instruction and click on "Log In" ... you enter your user name and password and click submit.
BANG! Does it take you back to the new message you were so lovingly creating? No! It takes you to the Forum Index and you just lost your entire post!!! :rant
Suggestion 1) In this scenario, if the New Message function is being used and the user is directed to Log In, once done it should return the user to the new message he was working on.
Suggestion 2) If suggestion 1 is too complicated to code or work around then a filter should be put in place, that as soon as a user clicks on "Post New Message" they should get the system generated response:
"If you are a registered user please log on before posting your new message"
Just my two cents...
Love Elton :blush
