Recommendation on Upgrading :bounty:

New member
I'm using a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and wanting to upgrade to another :bounty: model. A couple of months ago I looked into buying a used Lone Star from a local pawn shop. I didn't pull the trigger on that one. I have been working on getting better with my Tracker IV and it has been paying off. I am finding things in locations where I have already searched and did not previously find anything. So I am feeling much better with my "rookie" capabilities and my Tracker IV.

But I do want to upgrade so I am asking for recommendations. Here is a list of where I search and in what conditions:
A) The Beach - both dry and wet sand, as well as in shallow salt water
B) Tot lots and school grounds - the playgrounds are bark mulched, ground up tires or pea gravel
C) Sand volleyball courts
D) The ground here is black gumbo clay which is VERY sticky when wet, rock hard when dry

My wish list is to have a unit that is water proof or water resistant - especially in salt water. I'd like it to be able to possibly identify my finds, to know the estimated depth, to have audio as well as visual capabilities, needs a headphone jack, and any other "whistles and bells" available.

I'd like to stay with the Bounty Hunter brand. I tend to be brand loyal as long as the brand is loyal to me.......and so far my Tracker IV has been. The problems I've had in the past were all operator inexperience.

So I am asking for recommendations from you guys on the best unit Bounty Hunter has to get me there. Which Bounty Hunter do you use and why? Would you buy it again? If not, why? If yes, why?

I'm not rich so money IS an issue.....which translated means the more it's gonna cost, the longer it will take me to save for it. But don't take that to mean I wanna go cheap!! I want the best unit for the best price possible. I like the looks and reviews of the Legacy 3500.

Thanks for your tolerance of the rookie and your input and guidance!! :clapping:

I'm also looking into upgrading too. My needs are about the same as yours. My choices would be either the Legacy 3500 or Discovery 3300. Hope this helps. HH.

Just thought I'd give you an idea of where I'm coming from and my situation.
At the present time, I've got a Pioneer 505 & the 4", 8" and 11"DD coils. I really like my 505, however it lacks manual ground balance capability which would help when searching in the wet sand at the beach. It also can't distinguish between a copper cent and a dime. It can't tell the difference between a silver or clad coin. I would really like to have these features and capabilities and I would also like to be able to use the coils that I presently own on the new detector that I buy.
Don't get me wrong, I really love my 505, it detects coins deeper than any other Bounty Hunter model except the Platnum and I intend to keep it and continue on using it too. It would also be great tohave one of the detectors set up with the 4" coil just for pinpointing and searching trashy areas while the other is set up for general searching. This would eliminate the need of changing coils all the time. I like the Legacy 3500 and the Discovery 3300 because of the numbered target id and the 4 tone audio id (the 505 only has 3 tone audio id). I prefer the Legacy 3500 because it is the newer updated model.

Thanks for replying Walt. I was wondering about the 505's functions.

I'm really liking the looks of the 3500. My only question is if I can use it in the salt water? I have not been able to find anything on that. I mean, I would think it is since my Tracker IV can, right? LOL

Have a great day and thanks again for your input.

Frank

Salt water is tough to detect in using any of the Bounty Hunters including the Platnum but models with manual ground balance like the Landstar, Discovery 3300 and the Legacy 3500 seem to do better than the rest. HH.

Frank,
I just ordered a Legacy 3500 last night. Will probably receive it within the next couple weeks. Was going to wait til I received my income tax return but got such a good deal that I couldn't wait or it would cost me more. Anway, I promise to give you a good honest review of it once I receive it and field test it. I'll also evaluate it using the 4", 8"and 11"DD coils. Latter when I buy the 10" Magnum coil, I'll evaluate it while using it on the Legacy 3500 too. HH.

Awesome Walt!! I am jealous!!! Can't wait for a review that I can trust........

Let me know where you bought it, please. PM me if you'd prefer.

My wife WAS saying I had to sell my Tracker IV before buying another one......but I have her convinced otherwise. A man ALWAYS needs a backup plan!! LOL

I've been shopping around for the best price.....just a a reference. It will be 6-7 months before I will have the money saved for mine. I REFUSE to put anything on a credit card......cash is king, you know!?!?

By that time you will be an expert on the Legacy so you can be my "long distance teacher!"

HH!!

Frank

I'd definately hang on to the Tracker IV as a backup because you probably wouldn't get much for it if you sold it and they are a great detector to have as a backup unit. HH
