RECHARGEABLE BATTERY'S

any one know how good the harbor f rechargeable battery's are and do they hold up for a all day hunt. the one's i have are the 2000 mah nickel metal hydride battery's 1.2v. thanks

Personally, I don't like the rechargeable. They are heavier and seem to not charge all the way after a few charges. And if so, they don't hold a charge. I would say they are the same as any other rechargeables. I know others that use rechargeables and wouldn't have anything else. JMHO. HH, Nancy

I don't like 1.2 volt batteries when they are normally 1.5 volts. On the bright side they now have 1.6 volt batteries (Nickel Zinc Rechargeable Batteries - AA 1.6 volt) that will last longer. I'm thinking of getting a set.

I too have never had good luck with rechargeable battery's, they seem to work the first time recharged, then slowly lose there git and go , this is just my experience,,,,

I don't suggest using rechargables while detecting, your spending alot of effort to detect so don't let a voltage loss cost you a silver loss. :)

The MXT uses 8 AA's at 12 volts. If you use rechargables you only get 9.6 which is already border-line (low bat).

As a side question, and Im not trying to hi-jack the thread, Does anyone else notice excess chattering when your batteries drop to about 9 volts? I noticed this several times and each time was fixed by installing fresh batteries. So I know the problem was low batteries but wonder if its normal for 9 volts to cause this. I believe 'Low Bat' does not show until around 8 volts, I start fresh before that happens.

Sorry for the hi-jack, Chopper1, Its along the same line (batteries) so I figured I would ask here.

Yes, it will chatter with low batteries. Mine will start after using it at 10 volts for a few hours which probably by then it's only 9 volts. Save the used batteries for another detector, etc. Larry would use my "old" ones and get hours out of them. HH, Nancy

Thanks nancy, Its nice to know my detector is working normally. It gives me more confidence when 'good' targets are so far apart in my area. When I begin to doubt my setup I feel like quitting early. lol
