Rechargeable Batteries

Rob (IL)

New member
I picked up a CZ and have it being calibrated and set up as a 3D by Tom D. I have a question. Does anyone use rechargeable batteries? If you do how do they work?

I use rechargeable batteries in all my other detectors but this is my first CZ.

I use the PowerEx 9.6V rechargeables in my CZ, and so far, they have lasted about 6 hours before dropping one notch on the battery meter...This means I should get about 12-15 hours out of them...The PowerEx are the only 9.6V NiMh I know of...There may be other brands, but I have not found them yet...Also, if you are going to spend the money on these, do NOT skimp on the charger...Get a good smart charger for them. I use an Energizer Smart charger. It will charge 9V, AA and AAAs.

HH,

I use CTA 9 volt 275 mAH batteries in my CZ70 pro. They last about 12 to 15 hours.Been using them for about three years without problem.

Thanks for the reply. I'm running Li Ion in my V3i and I know they are coming out with Li Ion for the Explorers. The Deus and CTX use Li Ion and I see they have them in 9v now. I will still look up the NIMH. I'm glad they work for you.

GOGO what charger do you use?

The CTA 9 volt 275 mAH batteries are 8.4V compared to 9v for the alkaline.
Does this present a problem?

The reviews on Amazon claimed many failures for the PowerEx 9.6V rechargeables ?

I would think many guys would be using rechargeable batteries, chime in. I'm new to 9v batteries. I need to buy.

I forgot to ask, aren't many guys using rechargeable batteries?

I have 2 sets of the PowerEx and have never had a problem...
I use this charger:

HH,

8.4 volters should work just fine.

NiMH rechargeables are no problem from an electrical function perspective, but will die a lot sooner than a good alkaline will. And when NiMH's die, it's sudden, virtually no warning, it's like they just fell off a cliff.

Thanks Dave, I've used rechargeable batteries for a long time. I just haven't used a 9v or a CZ. The CZ is in the mail on the way back from Tom. Thanks for all your help and the PM.
