Have just bought a Tracker IV can anybody tell me if I can use rechargeable 9volt batteries with this. The manual says that you can only use alkaline.

Cheers from OZ

i called radioshack and they said only if the manual says you can . ijust got aquick silver and thougth the same thing but the manual says no .

I have the Land Star and the manual says use alkaline but you can use rechargeable. I exclusively used rechargeable for my detectors. I also have the new Teknetics Gamma and its manual says alkaline or rechargeable nimh.

The key thing about rechargeable is that they come in different 9v sizes (7.2v, 8.4v, and 9.6v). Do not use the 7.2v. You need to use the 8.4v or 9.6v. The rechargeable need to maintain a certain voltage for a certain period of time for the high draw equipment and the 7.2v won't cut it. My experience has been 4-6 hours life per charge for my detectors. The Land Star takes 2 batteries and the Gamma takes 1.

Another recommendation is to get a quick charger. My first charger took 12-14 hours. A quick charger can do it 2-3 hours.

You can shop eBay. Do a search for "9v 8.4v batteries". :powerex"is a brand that many people recommend. I had purchased the Powerex quick charger. It is great!

Happy hunting!

You can use rechargeable, but the voltage is slightly lower than Alkaline, and results may vary from detector to detector...I use rechargeable in my Bounty Hunter, but use the Alkaline in my White's, only because the Alkaline last forever in the Whites...like 50 hours or more...There are Rechargeable out there that deliver the full 9V or better...Powerex is one brand
