Well it's the batteries or the charger, but something is wrong. They are dead and won't come back to life. Bought the Infinium new last March (2014) Any guessing before I call Garrett?
How long do they usually last ? Is there a better up-grade? Thanks for any info.

Depending on how often they are recharged, they should last at least 3 years.
I have some that are still going after 6 years.
If you have a multimeter to measure DC voltage, check the output of the charger before connecting it to the battery pack. And then after connecting to the pack. (the charger must be plugged into the AC outlet during both measurements.) it should be around 9 volts DC a bit higher when not connected to the pack. If the pack is bad there are after market chargers that are better than the Garrett IMHO.
You can also measure each PAIR of cells in the battery pack (there are 4 pairs). Each pair should show better than 2 volts. If the reading is less you more than likely have a bad cell. Time for new cells. Check out other battery threads...under my user name...I think there are a few in the ATX forum...got to go, let me know.
+1 to better after market batteries and chargers than the stock stuff Garrett sends with the infinium. WaterWalker told you the professional way to check them but if you don't have a voltmeter you can get a little more information with some clever observations. Is the charger getting hot? If it is actually charging, it will at least get warm. After you have left the pack plugged in for a few hours, unplug it from the charger and stick your tongue to the contacts, like you would a 9V battery. If the pack has juice, it'll be just like licking a 9V. DON'T LICK THE CHARGER CONTACTS. Let us know what you find.
Thanks to Waterwalker & Grilled Scallops. I was able to troubleshoot my batterys. Gave Garrett a call, still under warranty, no problem. Their in the mail. Thanks Garrett.
As a thought. When ever you buy something (detector) take the time to register it. It sure saves a lot of trouble for everyone. I registered mine on line (Infinium) followed later to confirm by phone.
Warranty honored.
