Rechargeable batteries for the Sov

Neil

Well-known member
Has anyone used the sanyo eneloop batteries in their alkaline packs on the Sov? Would like to hear how long they lasted. They appear to hold a charge a long time and some of the guys on the explorer forum say they actually give a longer run time than the stock rechargeables(on the explorers).Wondering if its the same on the Sovs. I used some rechargeables years ago, they didnt last as long and I cant remember if they discharged by just sitting.
Im going to order some eneloops for my Explorer and some other devices and was thinking maybe to order some for my Sov as well.
The newest eneloops are 2000 mah, whatever that means, thats more than is on either the Sov or Explorer packs so Im guessing its an improvement?

the sov nimh packs are 1000 mah. the explorer packs are 1650 and 1850 mah. The 1850 is the longer run time battery.

Hi Neil i looked at a few sites that sell them they are a bit pricey for a 16 pack 41.97 but i guess that is only $ 2.62 a battery for the Sanyo New Version Sanyo Eneloop 2000 MAH LOW Discharge AA Batteries Sixteen Battery Bundle Ill give them a try . Jim

here you go Jim, cheaper by the 8pk.http://www.amazon.com/eneloop-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable-Batteries-Position/dp/B004RP2VNI/ref=pd_sim_e_21

for some reason Im thinking they will work with the explorers well but not the Sovs? Maybe the sovs use 10batteries in their rechargeable packs?

hopefully someone here has tried them.

Marshall, one of the guys who bought a meter said he used these the 2000-1500 in his Sovereigns alkaline pack and that they worked well.First chance I have will order these enloop batteries and try out for myself,at this point I'm a non believer because they are labeled 1.2V.I have an Explorer so if they don't work in the Sovereign no problem.Good Luck Ron

The Sovereigns use a 10 cell pack in the rechargeables, even the GT does. I tried these batteries in my wife's MXT and the E-Trac and work great, but haven't tried them in any of the Sovereigns yet. I picked mine up last summer as someone had a sale and got 10 of the 4 packs for less then $5 each pack and I charged up the one in the MXT last fall in October and when I tired to charge them up this spring (second week in April) they only charged for around 5 minutes and said they were full, so they keep a charge real good.

I ordered two 8 packs to try, along with the recommended charger that is displayed on the same page.

Rick Im thinking these will work great with an explorer but the sov may require more juice and thats kinda what I remember from years ago using similiar rechargeables, just didnt get much run time out of them on the sov.
I believe even the etrac was improved on battery usage and gets longer run time than the explorers. I guess one of minelabs improvements you dont hear much about.

Ron theres a long explanation on the amazon page about 1.2volt versus 1.5volt, sanyos explanation of why one is used over the other and how they compare.

I will let you know how they work out.

I only recommmend the Sanyo Eneloop 2000 Mah rechargeable batteries. You can get 18 - 22 hours use on a charge. Take Notice: Only get the Made in Japan batteries. Enjoy Hunting

They are working just fine in my ML Explorer SE pro and the SOV GT. Have been using them for over a year in the Explorer. Marshall

I have used Eneloop 2000mah in the Duracell chargers and the Energizer chargers, NO Problems charging. Look for the chargers at the Flea Markets. I got my first two chargers for $2 each.

Ron...I bought these Alkaline Rechargeables to try in my Sovereign. These are a 1.5 V and 2000mAh..I charged them and checked them with my meter and they tested at 1.5.V..I hadn't seen these for sale anywhere before and being a 1.5 V i wanted to try them out.The name is Pure Energy and i bought them at WallMart in Toronto,Canada. They are a Canadian made battery so i don't know if you can buy them in the U.S..They were cheap,,$5-6 bucks for a 4 pack.I used them last weekend for about 6 hours and they are still holding over half the charge..I will be out again this week to see how much more time i can get out of them..Anyone you know used them.?..Like i said i hadn't seen them anyplace for sale before so they may be fairly new on the market...John...
