Recently bitten by metal detecting bug!

So I just started detecting and was out with my son at a local swimming hole when I pulled this nice little silver ring out of the water with my AT Pro. It's stamped .925 indicating sterling silver but there is another 2-letter stamp inside the band - "UD", any idea's what that might be or the time period of the ring? Just looking at the bottom of the stone settings made me think the small diamonds on band & center piece were authentic so I bought a tester and sure enough they all indicated the real deal!! Pretty happy with my first ring find and it seems like it may even be worth a couple bucks... however, I think this ones getting sized and going on my better half's finger for putting up with all my expensive "hobbies".

Still searching for the illusive silver coinage, so far my closest is a first year clad quarter and dime...

Nice one! Probably a makers mark...this will be the first of many for you, Congratulations! That ring was in there for a while, and a silver ring signal is generally not missed if anybody ever got a coil over it in the past so that area begs another few sweeps..all the junk targets in there will tell you if its been hunted before..their depth, composition and age...you want to see the old style pulltabs come up...that should signal a good chance for gold! Good Luck and welcome to this awesome sport!:clapping:

Chris.....I don't know what is more addictive....heroin, cocaine or metal detecting! Not having ever done the first 2, I couldn't tell you, BUT what I do know is, that this hobby get's in your blood for life!! Congrats on the silver ring and just wait untill you find your first GOLD ring:clapping:You truly will be committed to this great hobby (or addiction) lol!!!!

YEP!!!!!! You are hooked. Nice job on the ring. I am sure the BOSS will like it. More is in sight, I feel it in my old bones.... KEN

As an alcoholic Uncle of mine once said "I am not addicted, I can quit when ever I want to. I Just don't want to." Of course he died a Drunk.

Yes I am addicted and thankful there is not a program like AA to treat the addiction. I enjoy it far too much. There is another aspect to this addiction and it is the ever increasing desire to try a better or at least more expensive detector. Give your machine lots of time and use before you "Upgrade". Experience with the machine greatly enhances your chances of finding the good stuff This summer I went back over a couple of areas that I had worked a bit over a year ago. Only found one silver quarter the first go round. This time I found seven silver dimes and one silver quarter.

That ring will keep you hunting for quite a while. In the meantime you will find more goodies to keep the addiction hanging on.

The ladies in our life do like those silver rings. My wife had ringnapped four or five of the ones that I have found. Came home with one that I had found at the beach and she said "Thats Not My Style". A couple of hours later I was looking for the ring and could not remember where I had put it. I asked her if she knew where I had misplaced the ring and her reply was "Its in my jewelry box".

Congratulations on the Ring.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the comments. Your all correct - I'm truly becoming an addict :help:

Nice work! You've got a good tool to enjoy the sport,

Oh no, once bitten by the bug the fever sets in. Good luck my friend. It's a great hobby.

Nice finds so far.

This addiction may cost you your relationship but it won't take your life lol. I started a little over a year ago and have got it bad. I'm constantly researching early colonial sites. But winter has set in here in Maine so my hunting may be over for a bit. Time to get the T2 and F75 upgraded and be ready for spring. Great fin find good luck to you
