After I returned home with a bunch of silver on Memorial Day, I found out that a co-worker had experienced a ruptured appendix and had to have emergency surgery, so I have not been able to get back up to my sister's until this past weekend (4 long weeks!!). My brother-in-law was in need of help with his recently purchased E-trac. It had arrived the Tuesday after Memorial Day. He had taken it out twice between then and now. He was very confused after using a White Prism that just clunked when you ran it over something. Now he's hearing an entire orchestra!. While spending time "training" him - check his signals, lending my shovel, setting up patterns - he scored an 1853 Seated dime, a 1901 Barber dime and a 1917 D Merc! Even though he beat me in silver count, I think I still did well despite all of the "distraction"!!

The funny part is.... We were detecting in front of an old church at the back of a park where I had found several Indian Head pennies and a Shield nickel last summer. I said, "We need to go over there and hunt that wide open space between the 2 pinic tables." He started following me and then got distracted by signals. I proceeded to the spot and after about 10 minutes found the Barber quarter. I looked up, pointed at the coin and motioned him to get over there where I was. I guess I could have been very selfish, but he has watched me find so much silver in the past and I was trying to clue him in on good signals. My goal was to help him become comfortable with his new machine, so I was a kind Brother-In-Law and helped advance him over the past 2 days. Now that he has the bug, and also knows may people in that area, he will be getting permission for us to hunt (several have already opened up to us) and I WILL be rewarded! LOL!

Congrats on the silver. Sound like both of you are doing quite well.

Don,
Those finds are great. We get older silver occasionally but not nearly as much as you folks do. Hang in there, your kindness will pay off.. Thanks and Take Care, Richard

I think it will be! I recounted and need 8 more to tie my total silver finds from last summer. I found as many silver in 2 trips to my sister's this year as I did in 4 or 5 trips last year.

That we did, Jim! Looking forward to getting back up there to hunt soon!
