Howdy--

It's been pretty hot here - between 100 and 108 in the shade and there is NO SHADE! To keep from going crazy I went out a couple of times but for very brief hunts (for me). Because of medications and the heat, I have been limited to 3 or 4 hour hunts with plenty of rest and hydration periods. Anyway, I've had a little luck. My last hunt was in a nearby town where I found a nice older house in a good old neighborhood that had a sticker on the door stating that the property had been abandoned. My buddy, Kenneth , and I got after it. I was experimenting with single frequency 22.5 kHz and had success. At this site I dug quite a few memorials and then near a large tree I dug 9 clad dimes in a very small area and a wheat cent at 5". A few feet from there I got a bouncy signal in the high 80's and dug a 1942-D walking liberty half and a 1964-D Roosevelt. Also dug, at this site, 6 clad quarters, a couple nickles and several toy cars. The other silver was dug at a recent tare-down. The 1952 Roosevelt must have been in the building and fell in the dirt when they hauled the debris away because it sure hasn't been exposed to the harsh west Texas soil. I think that the next time that I hunt my relic site I'm going to try the 22.5 frequency with my 14" DD coil. In air tests, the 14" DD gets excellent depth and that extra depth just might get that gold coin that has eluded me! Best of luck and...

Great coins well done . What machine did you detect with .
I have a SDC2300 for gold and a CTX3030 for coins . We are in severe mineralisation +hot rocks area , so it helps to use Minelab Detectors .
Designed in Australia for our soils .

Cheers

Howdy goldrat--

Thank you. I was using my White's V3i. I also have a White's DFX for backup and a Fisher 1280-X for underwater. Thinking about getting a specialized gold detector and taking a trip to Arizona for some nugget hunting. Best of luck to you and...

I wish that the v3i wasnt soo expensive i find it a bit overpriced to be honest. Otherwise I would buy one.

Howdy Wheat Cent--

Yes, the V3i is an expensive detector but I made my DFX pay for it! 99% of my detecting is at vacant lots, old home sites. Not all of my "good finds" consist of coins or relics, I include copper, brass and lead scrap in that catagory. When I recycle the scrap, I put that $$ in a metal-detecting equipment envelope. That's how my DFX paid for my V3i. Best of luck and...

Wow, I mean I've never kept any scrap to recycle I usually give it to my club and they recycle it and use the money to fund events and hunts.

I have probably pulled in the last 5 months $300.00 worth of clad and a couple gold rings. I trade a lot to get machines I want. Maybe some day I can get a vx3 or v3i. I have a AKA sorex, dfx, and Nokta Fors Core. And for water a Seahunter and excalibur. Traded my safari for a mxt pro.

Good going on the $300 in clad! This is one hobby (addiction?) that pays for itself! Also good going on sharing your scrap copper & brass with your detecting club. Best of luck and...

Let's just say hobby but mean addiction :) but yeah I don't find many old coins except for Wheat cents, and maybe a buffalo nickel but no silver usually. Eh it's not the end of the world gold and silver rings make up for that.
