Recent MX Sport finds, lots of mud and water!

Old California

Got out this weekend up in gold country for some Relic hunting, been a while last time I was up there water was scarce.

With recent rains, water is flowing down the mountains and hills in buckets, water everywhere. Ground is soaked, had to park a ways from the site and hike in. With owners permission, spend a few hours on his property then headed back home. Auctally, didn't quite make it to the site, too muddy so I detected a pounded area I've done well on past hunts.

First, many thanks for the land owner allowing me to search here. And second, Thank you White's for making the MX Sport!

I'm more of a 2-tone hunter and always liked the MXT Relic mode, with the MX Sport the preset Relic mode recovery speed is too slow and audio drags on too long for my type of Hunting.

I'm finding Prospecting mode VCO OFF position is great for Relic hunting, same MXT performance but faster and deep.

Today's short hunt, was a joy even though the terrain was a muddy mess.

Dug another early 1860 eagle button, and auctally just a few feet from an area John Fremont stood back in early 1860's. A neat toe tap, Henry shell, several pistol balls, button and what appears to be part of a buckel that too was a few yards from were John Fremont stood in early 1860's.

Nothing earth shattering but from a pounded site I'll take them.

Thanks for looking,
Paul

...and Whites needs to buy that photo from you to use. Looks almost like you jumped into the scene on the box. What a gorgeous and peaceful looking place to spend the day diggin'.

"Lovely photo...I get to some similar looking spots and it is nice for the eyes!

I LKE your shaft covers...what are they / where did you get 'em?"

Good Hunting

Thanks Des,

What appears to be shaft covers is dry mud, the coil was muddy too but after crossing the stream dunked the coil to see if Threshold changed while scanning the stream bed. It didn't, that's good for those searching for nuggets in fresh water up in gold country.

Later, at another stream dunked the entire detector to wash off the mud, check out the MX Sport screen, the only two features I was constantly using were sensitivity and GB, note the push pads they have dry mud on them on these two push pad areas.

Ran GB locked, could have used unlocked but in areas with carpet of iron need to lock the GB.

Really like the MX Sport with Prospecting mode, both VCO off or on.

Thanks again,
Paul

Thanks Shawn,

I'll be going up there again soon, maybe a couple of weeks. Hopefully, the ground has dried the water made it difficult to get around and may have enhanced mineralization, in some areas mineralization was extreamly high.

Thanks again,
Paul

Looks like part of a California tongue 2 piece . Nice
