All recently found with my CTX 3030, the ground is very dry at the moment, too dry really for decent detecting, most signals are splatter and chirpy, once the rain comes the signals will get much clearer and the finds will be more frequent. All coins found about 6 - 7 inches. Because of the fluffy dry soil after the field has been ploughed good signals sometimes drop deeper when you dig and and the signal gets lost. I have heard a wonderful coin signal and as I dug, the coin has disappeared, of course I could keep digging but then the hole becomes a trench and I am worn out from digging. especially if the coin turns out to be just a pull tab. Once the wet weather comes then the coin sits patiently till I pick up and tuck away in my nice warm pocket.

Nice finds. I have not heard any complaints on the CTX's ability to locate good finds such as yours. What kind of settings work best where you hunt as far as your soil and audio preference auto or manual sensitivity, ferrous or ground coin? Thanks for posting. HH :minelab:

To tell the truth, I kept switching programs so I didnt stay on one for long, they all seem to work here. In the UK we tend to keep the distrim to small iron and dig for anything with a nice signal. At the moment because of the dry land a lot of good signals will be chirpy too so we have to dig as a lot of the chirpy sounds in very dry soil are small Roman coins. When its rained a lot I will be able to sort out the best programs and patterns. I generally use ferrous coin in all my settings.

In some places over here you dont even have to use a detector to pick up Roman coins, on some fields they are scattered all over.... All due to past Roman occupation I guess ( lol) I am not a fan of Roman coins unless they are silver, I just love the Silver and Gold Hammered, when you take the 6 or 700 year old coin out of the ground its like someone back then just past it to you, it left their hand and next it went into yours. I dont feel that with the Roman coins as they were most likely in a sack.
