Recent Finds In Virginia

Here are some of my recent finds. All the items were found with the Minelab Quattro except one of the large coppers that I found with my new Explorer2 that I purchased about 2 weeks ago. The coin on the far right is a 1773 Virginia Half Cent. If anyone has any idea what the item is that has a horse head on the left, crown in the center and a lions face on the right let me know. The site that I am hunting dates back to 1652. Thanks Ray in Virginia

CONGRATULATIONS ON THOSE AWESOME FINDS! I see that you have found quite a selection of coins also. It just goes to show that Minelab is going to be around for a long time with there truely awesome technology. WTG and keep up the great job of locating finds like those. :detecting::please:

Nice finds!!!

Is that a date on the piece in the upper right? Looks like it may be a date in roman numerals.

Anyone know what the VR and crown stand for other than being English? I have what I think may be a scale weight I found a few years ago with that same mark on it.

Hey Bob, The piece in the upper right hand corner is a cover off an old lock i think.. Under the crown and the vr it says improved tumbler loce i think. The site that am hunting has not yielded any silver coins only real old coins.

Excellent finds!!! What area of va are you hunting? I'm down in south central va area and mostly find civil war relics.

The VR under a crown means it is British from Queen Victoria's period (1835-1901). Short for "Victoria Regina". If you'll notice, nowadays you see "E-R II" under a crown or something similar - means Elizabeth II Regina (Latin for Queen).

almost looks like a helmet plate of sorts...or some kind of cap badge. Surely military...and surely British. I would think the horses head is actually a unicorn with the horn missing.

The "VR" piece is obviously Brit military as well. Looks like you're on a nice old military site.

Great finds!

My gold nugget hunting site for your old coin/relic site???

Love those old coins...

Thanks for sharing..

Hi Ray,

My guess is, you have the top half of a British soldier's helmet plate, from a regiment during the reign of Queen Victoria, I suggest you check out some of the old British Uniform pics at you local library or museum.
Good finds.

Hope this helps............Boony
