Recent finds, F-75 and ID Edge.....

Old California

New member
First, Bill Ladd let me borrow his Edge for a while "Thanks Bill!"

Between Bills Edge, T-2, couple of other detectors and now my F-75 did well at an old 1850's Chinese mining ghost town. The ID Edge scored eleven Chinese cache coins and the F-75 arrived just in time and quickly nailed the last 14 coins one of them a seated, In all I managed to get three seated dimes and over 40 cache coins the past several weeks.

I was impressed with the depth the Edge was getting, For a detector with an 8" coil it does well at the older sites. The F-75 is at home searching these type of conditions as well, Just like it's big brother (T-2) it gets serious separation and captures coins and relics from underneath the iron.

During the gold rush, 2000-3000 Chinese immigrants lived on this hill and surrounding area out in the meadow, I've been detecting this area the past 20 years with permission from the property owner. And all this time at this location I suffered using detectors with a slow recovery speed, I found allot of easy pickings stuff in the past but never could penetrate through the blanket of iron until now! These finds below are a result from today's technology, Amazing!

Thanks for looking and Thanks again Bill for letting me use your ID Edge,
HH, Paul

was a good find in itself Paul. Nice job on the display, it looks great!

Thanks Tom,

Over the years, I've pulled allot of Chinese cache coins from here and one seated quarter nearby. But the iron masking was too much for my detectors, This year, Using this area as a testing ground I took the time to test certain detectors "both old and new" to understand why some work best for older areas masked with iron.

The T-2 and F-75 did an outstanding job and are at home under these tough ground conditions, Bills ID Edge also worked well under these conditions and a few of my older detectors as well.

I'm giving the display case with the recent finds to the property owner, He's always welcomed and trusted me to roam his land whenever I wanted and even bring friends to hunt here...He recently sold another piece of property (500 acres) which also had allot coins and artifacts from the Gold rush era.

Thanks again,
HH, Paul (Ca)

Thanks Bill,

I was trying hard to bag a seated with the Edge but in this area seated are rare finds, Allot of Chinese cache coins but the Edge did really well getting some of the smaller stuff and even bits and pieces of broken cache coins.

A few other friends I invited the past two months scored some seated coins, One of them using the F-75 and on that particular day we both bagged a seated with our F-75.

Thanks again Bill for trusting me with your Edge,
HH, Paul (Ca)

Another person in California does well with his Edge, This was my first time using the Edge and I was amazied the depth it has.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

I know lots of guys who claim they gave the landowner a gift to come off looking good and to keep pounding the site. Yet alls they really did was to keep all the valuable coins from the owner, and just give a display of musketballs & flat buttons:(
You gave up an amazing display most wouldn't! Well done Paul...
HH,
Bill

Thanks Bill,

Over the years I've grown to realize the recovery of the find is really the greatest joy, The find itself is not as special as the moment you place the find in the palm of your hand...These are priceless moments imbedded in our memories to cherish forever, And sometimes depending on the property especially with such historical value the find means more to the owner than they do us....Now, the owner can share these finds with his family and friends and past them down from generation to generation.

This particular area (1850's China Ghost town) is well known and recorded in California's history books but only a handful know the general location, And even then only the owner, his family and some of the old timers of long ago knew the precise location...Everyone else speculated and really never knew the precise location.

About 20 years ago, I figured out the location and approached the owner for permission to search the property. Over this period I have given him some coins and artifacts from the area, My older detectors just didn't have the separation my new detectors have so my past finds were always limited to a few easy pickings....Now, Detectors like the T-2 and F-75 open up new territory capturing finds between the iron we once felt were impossible.

Thanks again Bill :)

Thanks Steven,

You ready for another trip up there! We still have some ground to cover before the Rattlesnakes take over, I'd say 2-3 weeks more the window will be closed for us to go in.

Let's get you another seated from there, You did good on the last trip.

Thanks Bill,

I used the 2F (two tones) mode with disc set at (5,)

Manually ground balanced and then switched to disc mode, I was having a hard time ground balancing with fast grab and had to GB with manual first and then switch to disc menu. This was due to poor mineralization, Ground balancing manually took care of the GB problem.

Sensitivity between 65 to 90 depending on the amount of iron, Out in the open cleaner areas I would crank up the sens up to 90 and could have gone higher but the mineralization up in the gold country prevents full throttle sens. Otherwise the F-75 operated with great stability, No chatter or chirps.
