Recent finds and one off my bucket list - finally!

It's been a long time since I've posted finds so this is over due. Been searching a difficult site that has been visited by many detectors this year due to dry conditions that exposed some previously submerged homesteads. Lots of large and small iron and massive areas of rocks a boulders present a big challenge. Just hiking the terrain can be hazardous as well. Lastly the large burrs and "hitch hikers" - small burrs are annoying. Made 4 visits very recently and non ferrous hits other than cans and pieces of them are few. I tried 3 different detectors and I liked the way the ATPro ran in this mess because good targets were being found 2 to 4" and I did t worry about dunking it in the river if I slipped while crossing so used it more on this location.

This half dime is a bit concave or saucer shaped. The dark as dug appearance AND the bubble tell me it may have been in a fire. A little, gentle electrolysis removed the blackened appearance. I've dug quantities of dark / black silver from water sites and areas that flood. This one was different and checks one off my list.

Non ferrous targets were not plentiful at all.

That old rifle cartridge crumbled later. The powder was indeed live after being submerged for decades. Dumped some grains in a tin and threw a match (don't try this at home LOL!)

The police button came from a different location that was drained. An old pond. Unfortunately the amount of deposited silt over the decades has the original bottom over a foot deeper.
It's funny how I'll buy and sell a detector here and there but the ATP stays...like a Timex.

Great finds! I really like that Police button. That should make a great addition to your ever growing collection.

Thanks John, when it came out it was very dark. Brushed on aluminum jelly and then rinsed well and the appearance is what you see. My hunting partner the same day found the same button before I scored one, really surprised.

Thx for the px Bruce! Really enjoy button finds and the Police Waterbury cleaned up NICE.

That's some mighty nice finds, Bruce. The half dime still alludes me. Often times even coins have some character to them. Good hunting! HH jim tn

Thanks. I estimate the buttons is 1940's-60's.

Thanks Jim. Dugging that was a highlight for me. I'm always hoping for something to get excited about and that got me hooting. Washed out coppers and toasted flat buttons are nice but can become ho-hum in the "colonies". Seems the bucket list goes on .
