Received my 1265x today

Received my 1265x today and gave it a try at a school ground where I have detected many times before. I managed to find a good mess of clad but I was surprised that nothing that I dug was very deep. I have read that the 1265x is a deep seaking detector, but it didn't seem any deeper than any other detector that I have had, maybe the coins in my area aren't very deep. It came with a 8" solid coil, I was wondering if I could find a 8" open center (spider type) coil would it make any difference in the performance, depth, etc. of the 1265x. I have always liked the open type coils better, I don't hunt in any place where they hang up or can get caught on anything. I have to get some more time in with the detector, even though no TID or multi tones I have alot to learn about it. Steve.

If you are hunting coins in a schoolyard you may be using too much discrimination. The 1265 was known mostly as a relic machine. Using no discrimination or very low discrimination is where it gets its depth. Using more discrimination lowers the depth very much....Jack

You are right Jack, today what I did was to use headphones (didn't us them the first time I tried the 1265) turn the volume up all the way on the detector and use very little discrimination. I did good good depth on coins but boy does the 1265 ever bark at iron and nails. I can see why the 1265 would be a fantastic relic machine. It's almost like a wild cat just waiting to bite, which isn't a bad thing. Thanks! Steve.

memories, I had a 1266X and I loved it to death. Turn down the "scrim" and bury a few old silver dimes at 5, 8 and 10 inchs. Make sure when you bury the coins to pack the dirt back in the hole 1 inch at a time and pound the dirt till its firm each inch. Oh did I find some good artifacts with that machine!

The more I have been using the 1265x the more I see that it is more of a relic machine, that's great if you're a relic hunter but I'm not, I hunt only coins/jewelry. It is too noisey for the type of hunting I do so I am selling it. If anyone is interested give me a shout, the price will be more than reasonable. Steve.

Must be this model isn't very popular any longer, I tried to sell it on eBay at what I figured a reasonable price ($225.00) and it didn't sell. Oh well guess I will have to keep it. Steve.
