Really Thrilled with the CZ5

My friend got permission to hunt an old church not far from my home town. We have hunted out there so much that if a place can be hunted out then this place probably is. One day he decided to set up a little testing garden for our detectors so he buried a 6 inch Indian Head, a 9 inch silver dime, and a 12-13 inch silver quarter. I have used this to test a few different detectors that I have purchased with mixed results. I decided after work that I would take the CZ5 out there and running it over the 3 coins. Once I found the area where the coins were buried, I got in my opinion really good results. I started with the Indian Head and I was very confident that the CZ5 would have no problem. The CZ5 did not let me down as it nailed the IH with a correct ID. I moved over to the dime and the CZ5 nailed the dime also with a correct ID. I thought that it would be nice to push the limits and I was able to get a solid two way signal an inch or 1 1/2 inches over the top of the target again with a correct ID. This is all with the 8 inch coil so to me that was IMPRESSIVE !! Here comes the weird part. I moved over to the 12 inch quarter and I got one high tone but usually an occasional iron grunt. I wasn't disappointed but could not understand why I could solidly hit the dime at 10 inches + but the 12 inch quarter would not give a good response. The only thing that I could figure out is that the quarter could have moved and be on edge and thus putting it out of the range of the 8 inch coil. I really want a 10 1/2 inch coil and I really believe the larger coil would nail the quarter without a problem. The bright side of the test is that I have in the past tested my Etrac and my XP Deus on the same coins and neither machine would give as good of a signal on the dime as the CZ5 did and even with the Etrac the quarter was not a good signal with the Pro Coil thats a lot bigger than the little 8 inch on the CZ. The Deus gave a real iffy signal on the dime and if I remember right an iffy signal at best on the quarter and I'm not sure that I got a signal at all. It was a while ago.

CZ-5 is a great machine, if you can hit a 9" dime swinging a inch or 2 above the ground, you got a good one.
One way high tone on a 12 or 13" coin is pretty good in my book. If your in an old spot you can investigate those one way hits and dig some deepies.
I dug a 10" shield Nickle recently that was a consistant (both ways) iron tone, it was black and crusty.
I dug because I had found other old coins in the area.
It's good to explore some of those deep signals no matter what they read.
I have gotten into the habit of using the volume at 4 so I can hear the modulated audio of the deep targets.

Good Luck and you got a goodun.

I also like the modulated audio. I really wasn't complaining at all about the detector it just puzzled me about the quarter. The CZ5 ID's coins deeper than anything else I have owned. I get excited when I get a deep sounding high tone.

Coil for coil...CZ units may be deepest on the planet...Explorer sure gives a lot of info but remember its stock coil is 10.5....
(been there done that) a 16 inch walking half from a drained out lake make you a believer especially with the stock 8 inch coil

I'm already a believer but a 16 inch walking half is amazing. Thanks for the info.
