Really strange coin

Scenario84

New member
This find is not mine, but a fellow detectorists. It is really unusual. The back looks like it says IEVAN THE AWFUL in a form of old English. That's what I make out anyway. Was hoping someone could shed some more light on this coin. Thanks!

May be a token or medallion rather than a coin. Was it found in England? If the symbol that you translate as a "L" in "AWFUL" is correct, then the first name has to be "LEUAN". The "V" in both words would be a "U". Check out this website: http://wiki.antir.sca.org/index.php?title=Ieuan_Gower. His fantasy character is "Leuan the Awful" and his heraldic shield looks pretty much like your coin. Did he actually make his own coins for his fantasy kingdom of An Tir?
Just noticed that the other side of the coin has the word "Gower" and Gwunetii? Mystery solved?

Leuan Gower is a character in a role playing game. Your coin is probably used during the games. Here is a link to Leuan Gower AKA Leuan The Awful.

On closer inspection the other side of the token (as shown in the left photo) reads "Gwyneth Gower", who is the wife of Leuan Gower according to the website.
