3 weeks ago we went on vacation to Virginia Beach and stayed in a nice hotel on the bay side. The beach there is rather quite but nice and good for deposits. The first day we arrived we decided to hit the water with our detectors. We were approached by a young man who was frantic because he had lost his wedding band the day before in the water and could not find it. He and several of his friends tried looking with face masks but no luck. He asked us if he could rent our detectors, but we declined because he did not have any experience in using one. Anyhow I said that I would look for it. He showed me the spot and I tried for a couple of hours with no luck. He left the next morning broken hearted because it was a custom made ring with diamonds and he was just married in March.
I told him I would look again and to leave his name and address. We were there during full moon and the tides were very low. The next day I went out during a very low tide and started the hunt, but I went out further than what he said. He was from Colorado and I don't think they have ocean tides out there...lol. Bingo, within a few minutes I had the ring in my scoop in chest deep water. Apparently the currents pulled it out farther.
I notified him and asked for identifying marks just to be sure the ring was his. It was and I returned it via Insured Priorty Mail with the hopes that he would at least reimburse me for the cost of mailing it. I did not ask for a finders fee or reward.
Here is the ring and I cannot believe what he sent me!!
